The conversation most farm families put off

A University of Exeter study for NFU Mutual found that only around half (50.7%) of UK farmers with children had identified a potential successor. And over a quarter (27%) had not discussed their later-life plans with anyone.

Here is the part that surprises people. 83.6% of those surveyed had a will, but only 18% had a formal succession plan. A will is not the same thing as a plan.

Silence is common. It doesn’t have to stay that way. This checklist gives you seven calm questions, in the right order, for one ordinary family dinner. No decisions. Just listening.

It’s yours free.

IS THIS FOR YOU?

This is for you if…

  • You have children, and you’ve never asked them what they want from the farm

  • You’ve assumed everyone knows the plan, or that there will be time later

  • You’d rather start with one calm dinner than leave it to a crisis

It’s not for you if you want a form that picks your successor. This checklist starts the conversation. It doesn’t finish it.
